Reporting to the Child and Youth Developmental Services Programme Manager, the Family Programming Facilitator will work with current NBSD and community-based staff to identify group programming that will meet the needs of the families served by NBDS. The delivery of programming will be done in partnership with community organizations to ensure it is culturally safe and done in consultation with community Elders and Knowledge Keepers. The delivery of family-focused programming will empower families of children and youth to support the work that is being done by NBDS staff

- Salary: Per Annum, after successful probationary period
- Term: Full time
- Location: Kenora—Firefly Location
- Reports to: Child and Youth Developmental Services Programme Manager
Summary of Duties
- Consult with 13 First Nation communities to identify needs for family-focused programming
- Collaborate with community-based service providers to deliver programming that meets the needs of families
- Promote services access where culture is reflected in care and where First Nations people are treated with respect, compassion, and cultural understanding
- Assist to build cultural competency within the region and broader health, social, education, and other systems
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with KCA and Firefly staff
- Build professional helping relationships with children, youth, and their families where appropriate in order to support them on a path of wellness
- Facilitate access to Anishinaabe knowledge, traditions and cultural beliefs in the healing process when appropriate
- Directly support youth and families to connect with traditional Knowledge Keepers, Healers and Elders for the purposes of accessing ceremony and any other cultural engagements
- Network and develop partnerships with community resources both in KCA member First Nations and local urban centers such as Kenora
- Ensure that all children and youth are connected to the right services based on their preferences and needs
Qualifications
- Proven experience providing both individual and group support to children, youth, and families
- Experience working with, coaching, engaging and/or supporting children and youth, with an emphasis on a strengths-based approach
- Identify as a positive role model and committed to a lifestyle of wellness
- Excellent skills in the following areas: interpersonal, computer, organization, networking, presentation and communication (written and oral)
- Knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture and language and experience working with First Nations communities considered an asset
Education
- University degree or College diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution (Psychology, Social Work/Social Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker) or the equivalent combination of lived and/or proven work experience
- Eligible for membership in professional organization related to field of study, if applicable
