Position Description

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) provides compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals in need of assistance with daily living activities. Working collaboratively with healthcare teams, the PSW promotes independence, dignity, and quality of life for clients.

Position Title:            Personal Support Worker (PSW)

Department:             Primary Care

Salary:                         $ 54,000- $ 57,000 Per Annum  

Term:                           Full-time             

Reports to:                 Nursing Manager             

Summary of Duties

  • Working with clients and providing one-on-one care such as assisting with personal care, meal prep and light housekeeping.
  • Ensuring the fulfillment of individual goals and needs as instructed in the client’s support plans.
  • Helping clients with leisure activities.
  • Ensuring the health, safety, welfare and independence of clients.
  • Engage with individual KCA member community leadership and health representatives to conduct assessments.
  • Work closely with partner health care providers such as Primary Care Nurse, Home Care Nurse, etc.
  • Assisting and satisfying the social and emotional needs of a client.
  • Documenting and recording daily care reports.
  • Adhering to the provincial Occupational Health and Safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • Current First Aid/CPR.
  • Experience and understanding of Indigenous cultural issues.
  • Ability to apply a bi-cultural lens to work activities.
  • Ability to adapt to change and remain flexible.
  • Experience in working with and understanding the needs of various types of clients.
  • Demonstrated understanding of PHIPA and ability to maintain client confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational and computer skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and effective organizational, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture and language is considered and asset.
