Position Description
The League Coordinator is responsible for organizing the logistics of both the summer and winter sports leagues offered through the sports and recreation programs. This role requires a reliable role model who is motivated to work frequently on evenings and weekends. The League Coordinator is part of the Kenora Chiefs Advisory Health Promotion and Prevention team and reports to the Director of Services-Health Promotion and Prevention.

Term: 1 year full-time
Location: 240 Veterans Drive, 3rd Floor, Kenora, Ontario
Reports to: Director of Service-Health Promotion and Prevention
Summary of Duties
Coach and Participant Recruitment and Training
- Recruit reliable and effective coaches and community volunteers to support each community’s teams
- Host a series of events and activities to raise awareness of the leagues and recruit participants
- Liaise with a wide variety of community workers to ensure that youth are referred to the program
- Collaborate with Jays Care to plan and organize annual coach trainings for baseball league
- Coordinate all details and logistics needed to deliver training, workshops and events to youth participants within assigned communities
- Visit communities regularly to ensure that practices are running smoothly and to offer coaching and support to community coaches
- Role model best practices in coaching for league coaches and for participants in the league
League Logistics and Community Events
- Set league schedule and league point system and post them for all coaches and communities to see
- Track points to poste them weekly on league Facebook groups
- Plan and host a series of intergenerational events and tournaments in KCA communities to ensure that entire communities are engaging in the program
Monitoring and Assessment
- Keep organized records of all activities and prepare a monthly report which includes relevant program information, financial records, assessments and data required by Director of Services—Health Promotion and Prevention and the Program Officer
Other Duties as Assigned
- Work closely with schools, Health Directors, and community staff to plan and deliver programming to community youth
- Organize presentations for education and awareness purposes to leadership, organizations and communities as required
- Complete administrative tasks on an on-going basis including emailing, photocopying, scanning, printing, faxing and other communication tasks as required
- Participate in KCA Health Promotion and Prevention Team activities
- Other duties as required
Qualifications
- Highly motivated and committed to program development within First Nations communities
- General computer skills and familiar with office equipment
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem solving and leadership skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Demonstrated workshops facilitation and event planning abilities
- Coaching and mentoring skills
- Knowledge of completing program reports and collecting various program statistics
Education and/or Experience
- College diploma or equivalent community work experience in the following areas:
- Community Services (Child and Youth Worker, Recreation and Leisure, Social Service Worker, Early Childhood Educator)
- Aboriginal specific programs (Community Advocacy, Education, Child and Family Services, Aboriginal Studies, Studies in Traditional Teaching)
- Experience working with children and youth in recreation, arts and culture programming
- Understanding of the Ojibway language is considered an asset
