POSITION DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Human Resources will oversee all HR functions, provide guidance, and ensure compliance with legislation in all employment-related matters. The HR Director will work at all levels of the organization to ensure solid and consistent HR processes that are supportive, consistent, and culturally safe. The Director of Human Resources will work collaboratively with the Senior Management team to provide organizational leadership in HR matters and to foster a work environment that supports employee wellness, cultural safety, and to ensure that the mission and vision of Ogimaawabiitong are the focal points of the organization.

Location: 240 Veterans Drive, 3rd Floor, Kenora, Ontario
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide direct management and support to HR department staff
- Work collaboratively with the Finance team in developing and maintaining joint administrative processes
- Develop and lead HR initiatives and processes, and work with senior management to implement
- Assess staffing needs and oversee recruitment efforts collaboratively with management team
- Lead Occupational Health and Safety processes and initiatives
- Lead initiatives that support workplace wellness
- Provide expertise and clear guidance to management team in all HR matters
- Provide direct guidance, coaching and advise to staff on HR matters
- Keep current on all applicable legislation, emerging trends in HR and any other requisite technical knowledge
- Oversee personnel policy and procedure implementation and ensure compliance with current legislation and best practices
- Maintain strict confidentiality in all employee-related matters and handle all processes with appropriate sensitivity.
Qualifications:
- University degree or college diploma in human resources management, business administration or organizational development
- CHRP designation (preferred), or extensive experience working in human resources
- Experience working in or with First Nation communities
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills including, listening, coaching and training
- Strong project management skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Exercises sound judgement in handling confidential and sensitive matters
- Experience in HR strategic planning, policy development and change management
- Excellent organizational, problem solving, and decision-making skills
- Proficiency with MS Office, Social Media profiles, business apps and technology
- Experience working in HR/payroll electronic systems
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of current HR related federal and provincial employment laws and regulations
- Can work independently, in a team setting and take initiative
Position Requirements:
- Current satisfactory Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Check;
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle;
- Willing to travel when required (25%);
- Understanding of the Ojibway language is an asset.
