We are on the lookout for one (1) dedicated Kitchen & Camp Cleaner to join our team and help us wash dishes, keep the kitchen clean and organized, ensure all facilities are maintained and cleaned to meet health and safety standards. We’re seeking Summer Kitchen & Camp Cleaner who understand and embrace the vision of the KCA Youth and Family Wellness Camp. As Kitchen & Camp Cleaner, you’ll play a pivotal role in daily kitchen & camp operations. Your responsibilities include upholding our high standards in thorough clean-ups all around camp that include the Mell Hall, Cabins and Kitchen bathrooms and common spaces, and dishes. We’re looking for someone with strong organizational and communication skills, and a willingness to make the camp sprinkle, we want to hear from you! 

Position Title:                   Summer Kitchen & Camp Cleaner 

Location:                            371 Strecker Road, Kenora, Ontario, P9N 4N8  

Report To:                         Summer Camp Supervisor, KCA Youth & Family Wellness Camp   

Contract:                            June23 – August 22, 2025 
Hourly Rate:                      $17.00/Hour (35/week) + Bonus, $1.00 for every hour worked  
Positions Available:        1 Position  

Duties and Responsibilities: 

YES Program and Professional Development: 

  • Takes part in the YES program training workshops that include the onboarding process 
  • Participate in regular check in and additional professional develop sessions that support internal professional growth  
  • Ensure all job specific training is completed and gain personal confidence to complete summer tasks that are assigned.  

Collaboration and Support: 

  • Collaborate with KCA Youth & Family Wellness Camp Director, Managers, Coordinators, Head Chef, Sous Chef, Senior, Junior and Inclusive Camp Counsellor, and other KCA Staff on various projects, events, and programs. 

 
Kitchen Operations Assistance: 

  • Assist in the daily kitchen operations, including serving, and clean up. 
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen areas, including countertops, sinks, stoves, ovens, and other appliances. 
  • Wash, dry, and store dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment. 

Camp Operations Assistance: 

  • Clean and maintain camp facilities, including bathrooms, showers, cabins, and common areas 
  • Support the turnover in cabin cleaning as campers change over 
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in kitchen, dining, and common areas. 
  • Empty and dispose of garbage ensuring cleanliness in waste storage areas. 
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and use of cleaning chemicals and supplies in accordance with safety guidelines. 
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate personnel. 
  • Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized workspace. 
  • Assist with other related tasks as needed to support kitchen and camp operations. 

Programming and Garden Maintenance: 

  • Assist in maintaining the community garden, including planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting. 

 
Miscellaneous: 

  • Willingness to work flexible hours for the KCA Youth & Family Wellness Camp. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge and experience with cleaning  
  • Demonstrated maturity; strong advocate of First Nation people; 
  • Must have demonstrated ability to work with First Nations as well as health and social service agencies. 
  • Must demonstrate the ability to respond calmly in emotional situations. 
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting. 
  • Knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture and language and experience in working in First Nation communities. 

Position Requirements: 

  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle is an asset. 
  • Willing to work irregular hours, evenings and weekends as required. 
  • Current satisfactory criminal reference check with vulnerable sector search. 
  • Certificate in Food Handlers is an asset 
  • Standard First Aid & CPR with AED is an asset.  
  • Understanding of the Anishinaabe language (Ojibway) is an asset.
