Position Description
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Economic Development Officer (EDO) will play a pivotal role in identifying and advancing economic opportunities that align with the strategic goals of Kenora Chiefs Advisory (KCA). The EDO will focus on developing and implementing an economic development plan to maximize the potential of existing and future assets, foster economic growth, create employment opportunities, and establish sustainable revenue streams. This role requires collaboration with leadership, community stakeholders, and partners to support economic initiatives that contribute to the overall well-being of KCA communities.

Reports to: Executive Director
Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Economic Development
- Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy.
- Conduct research, feasibility studies, and environmental scans to identify economic opportunities.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to prioritize and advance economic initiatives.
- Develop and monitor project plans to ensure timely and successful implementation.
Asset Development and Revenue Generation
- Explore and implement opportunities to optimize the use of organizational assets for economic benefit.
- Assess existing infrastructure and identify areas for improvement, expansion, or new revenue streams.
- Support the development of long-term strategies for asset management and revenue generation.
Community Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with member First Nations, community leaders, local businesses, and government agencies.
- Represent KCA in stakeholder meetings, events, and partnerships to advance economic development priorities.
- Plan and host community-focused events to showcase opportunities and encourage engagement.
Program Implementation and Reporting
- Coordinate and oversee economic development initiatives to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
- Prepare and submit regular reports to the Board of Directors and funding agencies, highlighting progress and measurable outcomes.
- Identify funding opportunities and support the preparation of grant applications and proposals.
Budget and Financial Oversight
- Collaborate with the Finance team to develop and monitor budgets for economic initiatives.
- Ensure fiscal accountability and compliance with funding agreements.
Staffing and Supervision
- Recruit, supervise, and mentor team members, as needed, to support economic development activities.
- Provide leadership and guidance to ensure the successful delivery of project objectives.
Qualifications:
- University degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, in Business Administration, Economic Development, Commerce, or a related field.
- Equivalent experience in economic development, project management, or business may be considered.
- At least 3 years of experience in economic or community development, business management, or project coordination.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans and manage complex projects.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentations.
- Knowledge of funding sources, grant writing, and financial planning.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant project management tools.
- Knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture and language and experience in working in First Nation communities.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Must be willing to travel when required.
