Position Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Junior Community Mentor (CM) to support the design, delivery, and evaluation of our community’s local PLAY program. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community engagement, program planning, and youth mentorship.
Position Title: Junior Community Mentor (CM)
Department: KCA Youth & Family Wellness Camp, Equine and
Sport & Recreational Programming
Hourly Rate: $18.50/Hour (35 hours/Week)
Term: June 23, 2025 – August 22, 2025
Location: 240 Veterans Drive, 3rd Floor, Kenora, Ontario
Reports to: Sports and Recreation Manager
Junior Community Mentor Roles and Responsibilities include
Be a Role Model of Inspiration:
- Arrive punctually each day, ready to set the standard for behavior and engagement.
- Fully engage in staff training sessions
- Wear the staff uniform, embodying the essence of professionalism.
- Model engaging and well-planned activities that inspire campers and staff alike.
Program Support:
- Assist in the design, delivery, and evaluation of the local PLAY program within the community.
- Facilitate activities during programming (ie. homework help, cooking, small group activities)
- During Modified Programming, plan weekly activities, post activities on Facebook or social media, assemble and deliver care packages.
- Support the planning and implementation of events and initiatives
- Assist with program supply shopping
- Recruit children and youth to attend to programming
Training:
- Attend three Right to Play virtual training sessions
- Complete a learning plan and evaluation to outline employment interests, learning style and development goals
- Submit learning plans to your Program Officer (P.O.) following the provided guidelines.
Through the Junior Community Mentor job opportunity, you will receive the following:
- Be offered authentic leadership opportunities to exercise your voice, share their needs and interests as a part of the PLAY program
- Receive a comprehensive onboarding that will focus on general employability skills and abilities specific to the Jr. CM role.
- Build a youth network of support with other Jr. CMs in the employment program
- Receive ongoing mentoring from their Community Mentor while in the role to support their ongoing development
Feedback and Improvement:
- Provide formal feedback on your training and work experience to Right To Play (RTP).
- Contribute insights to help revise and improve the project for future iterations.
Qualifications
- Strong interest in community engagement and youth development.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Creative and proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Must not have been a Junior Community Mentor in past years with this program.
- Commitment to the full duration of the program (June – August).
