Position Description:
We are seeking one (1) compassionate, patient, and dedicated Inclusion Supervisor to join the team at the Youth & Family Wellness Camp. This key leadership role is responsible for directly supervising and supporting the Inclusion Counsellors, ensuring that all campers – regardless of ability or needs, experience safe, inclusive, engaging, and culturally grounded programming throughout the summer. The Inclusion Supervisor plays a vital role in supporting staff, addressing day-to-day camper needs, and ensuring that programming aligns with camp values, expectations, trauma-informed practices, and Anishinaabe teachings.

Contract: May 4, 2026 – August 28
Hourly Rate: $24.00/Hour (40 per week) + End of Summer Bonus; $1.00 for every hour worked

Duties and Responsibilities:
Be a Role Model of Inspiration:
- Arrive punctually each day, ready to set the standard for behavior and engagement.
- Fully engage in staff training sessions
- Wear the staff uniform, embodying the essence of camp professionalism.
- Model engaging and well-planned activities that inspire campers and staff alike.
Training & Professional Development
- Participate in YES Program training workshops and onboarding.
- Attend regular check-ins and professional development sessions.
- Complete all job-specific training and demonstrate confidence in assigned cleaning tasks.
- Assist with the design and delivery of staff training, including orientation for summer staff
- Provide mentorship and professional development throughout the summer, focusing on teaching skills, communication, and cultural awareness.
Leadership & Supervision:
- Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and support to all Inclusion Counsellors.
- Conduct daily check-ins and weekly team meetings to review camper needs, programming updates, and staff concerns.
- Support counsellors in creating engaging, inclusive, and culturally connected programming.
- Support counsellors in creating inclusive group experiences that foster camper safety and connection.
- Supporting the transportation of campers to and from programming locations on site.
- Observe counsellor interactions and provide constructive feedback and mentorship to staff to help build confidence, communication skills, and trauma-informed approaches.
- Fostering positive, collaborative work environment that reflects the Sacred Teachings, organization’s mission & values.
- Maintain clear and professional communication with parents and guardians to share updates, address concerns, and ensure consistent support for each camper’s needs.
Camper Support & Inclusion Planning:
- Oversee individualized camper support plans, ensuring accommodations and strategies are clearly communicated to staff.
- Work closely with counsellors to support campers with behavioural, emotional, physical, sensory, or developmental needs.
- Consult with the Program Manager and Director regarding communication from caregivers, external supports, or community workers when appropriate.
- Help adapt activities so that all campers can meaningfully participate.
- Work with counsellors to ensure age-appropriate, inclusive, and culturally respectful experiences.
- Support program set-up and clean-up, ensuring spaces and materials are properly maintained.
Safety & Risk Management
- Ensure all counsellor-led activities meet safety protocols and are delivered in a manner that prioritizes camper well-being.
- Maintain oversight of safety practices related to behaviour management, supervision ratios, and high needs campers.
- Support staff in responding to behavioural challenges using trauma-informed, culturally safe, and strengths-based methods.
- Conduct daily cabin and program area inspections and report safety concerns immediately.
- Support counsellors in managing camper behaviors respectfully and consistently, following camp policies and procedures.
- Document and report incidents in accordance with camp safety policies.
Staff Training & Professional Development
- Assist with the design and delivery of counsellor training related to inclusion, accessibility, trauma-informed care, and behaviour support.
- Provide mentorship and professional development throughout the summer, focusing on teaching skills, communication, and cultural awareness.
- Provide ongoing coaching throughout the summer to strengthen staff confidence and skill in supporting diverse needs.
- Model professionalism, positivity, and respect in all interactions with staff and campers.
Program Quality & Evaluation
- Monitor inclusion support across all activities and evaluate counsellors to ensure high-quality, inclusive, engaging and accessible experiences for campers.
- Track participation, gather feedback from campers and staff, and contribute to program evaluation reports.
- Maintain open communication with the Program Manager and Director to identify successes, challenges, and areas for improvement.
Cultural Integration
- Support counsellors in embedding cultural teachings, language, and values throughout programming.
- Collaborate with the Cultural Lead to ensure traditional knowledge and land-based practices are incorporated meaningfully and respectfully.
- Promote an environment where campers feel safe to learn, share, and explore their identity.
Camp Site and Equipment Maintenance:
- Conduct regular inventory assessments and communicate supply needs promptly.
- Maintain camp spaces and equipment during program hours, ensuring a clean and functional environment.
- Report any site issues or equipment malfunctions promptly for swift resolution.
Other Duties as Assigned:
- Willingness to adapt working hours based on needs of program
- Be flexible and adaptable, ready to support camp operations in any capacity required.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture and language and experience in working in an Indigenous community or organization considered an asset.
- Knowledge of inclusion practices, trauma-informed care, de-escalation strategies, and strengths-based support.
- Experience working with children and youth with diverse needs, disabilities, or behavioural challenges.
- Experience working with children in a camp environment or similar setting.
- Ability to plan, organize, and lead a variety of engaging activities for children of different ages.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond appropriately to challenging behaviour.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with campers, parents, and other staff members.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and ability to respond to emergency situations.
- Physical fitness and ability to participate in camp activities alongside campers.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changes in schedule, program, or weather conditions.
- Creativity in adapting activities to meet diverse needs.
- First Aid qualifications (minimum of Emergency First Aid) is an asset or must be willing to obtain certificate prior to commencement of work assignment.
- High Five Certification is an asset.
Education and/or Experience:
- College diploma or equivalent community work experience in the following areas:
- Community Services (Child and Youth Worker, Recreation and Leisure, Social Service Worker, Early Childhood Educator); Aboriginal specific programs (Community Advocacy, Education, Child and Family Services
- Aboriginal Studies, Studies in Traditional Teaching)
- Experience in youth programming, mental health services, disability support, camp supervision, recreation leadership, or behaviour support roles.
- Strong knowledge of Anishinaabe culture, language, and teachings; experience working with Indigenous youth an asset.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple staff simultaneously and adapt to dynamic camp environments.
- Standard First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain before start).
- Understanding of the Ojibway language is considered an asset
