Position Description:
Reporting to the Property and Lands Manager, we are seeking a Summer Groundskeeper will support Youth & Family Wellness Camp operations by maintaining and caring for all outdoor spaces, with a primary focus on baseball fields and waterfront/beach areas (Lower Field), as well as the farm, community garden, trails, and cultural/ceremonial lands. This role supports the overall safety, cleanliness, and readiness of the property for programs, events, and daily activities.

Contract: May 4, 2026 – August 28 2026
Hourly Rate: $19.00/Hour (35/ week) + Bonus, $1.00 for every hour worked
if contract is completed

Duties and Responsibilities:
Be a Role Model of Inspiration:
- Arrive punctually each day, ready to set the standard for behavior and engagement.
- Fully engage in staff training sessions.
- Wear the staff uniform (if provide), embodying the essence of camp professionalism.
- Model engaging and well-planned activities that inspire campers and staff alike.
Training & Professional Development:
- Participate in YES Program training workshops and onboarding.
- Attend regular check-ins and professional development sessions.
- Complete all job-specific training and demonstrate confidence in assigned cleaning tasks.
- Assist with the design and delivery of staff training, including orientation for summer staff
- Provide mentorship and professional development throughout the summer, focusing on teaching skills, communication, and cultural awareness.
General Groundskeeping Duties
- Maintain outdoor spaces; lawns, gardens, trails, walkways, fire pits, & recreational areas.
- Assist with planting, watering, weeding, and general care of the community garden and farm areas.
- Clean up and prepare the property for programming, services, cultural activities, and events.
- Support the setup and takedown of outdoor program spaces.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, raking, and clearing brush.
- Empty outdoor trash bins and maintain clean grounds throughout the camp.
- Conduct regular inspections of outdoor spaces and equipment to identify hazards or required repairs.
- Assist in maintaining inventory of groundskeeping tools, including equipment specific to baseball fields and waterfront care.
- Learn and adhere to all safety protocols, including the proper use of outdoor tools and equipment.
- Work effectively as part of a team to meet cleanliness and land-care standards.
- Perform other outdoor or groundskeeping tasks as assigned by the Property and Lands Manager.
- Willing to work flexible hours as needed for camp operations.
- Works collaboratively with Youth & Family Wellness Camp Director, Managers, Coordinators, Sous Chef, and other Youth and Family Wellness Camp Staff to support outdoor program needs.
- Carry out daily groundskeeping tasks under the direction of the Property and Lands Manager.
Baseball Field Maintenance (Primary Focus):
- Serve as the primary caretaker of the baseball fields, ensuring they are safe, clean, and fully prepared for scheduled activities.
- Groom and maintain infields, including raking, leveling surfaces, repairing base paths, filling low spots, and proper field lining.
- Inspect and maintain equipment such as bases, pitching mounds, backstops, fencing, and dugouts.
- Mow and care for turf areas surrounding the baseball fields.
- Assist with setup and takedown for baseball practices, games, and related events.
Waterfront & Beach Maintenance (Primary Focus):
- Maintain the waterfront and beach areas to ensure safety, cleanliness, and readiness for camp use.
- Rake and clean the beach daily, removing debris, sticks, rocks, and litter.
- Inspect swimming areas, docks, buoys, and shoreline equipment, reporting hazards or repair needs promptly.
- Ensure pathways to the waterfront are clear and accessible.
- Assist with setup for waterfront programming and cultural activities.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture and language and experience in working in an Indigenous community or organization considered an asset.
- Must be willing to travel when required.
- Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search.
Position Requirements:
- First Aid qualifications (minimum of Emergency First Aid) is an asset or must be willing to obtain certificate prior to commencement of work assignment.
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle
- Willing to travel when required
- Understanding of the Ojibway language is an asset

- Between the ages of 15 to 24
- Be available for the whole summer
- Identity as Indigenous – Asset: Treaty 3
- Enrolled in Post Secondary – Asset
