The Youth & Family Wellness Camp is a place where culture, recreation, and community come together. Throughout the spring, summer, and fall, we celebrate community, youth, partners and families from surrounding First Nation communities to participate in events filled with land-based learning, outdoor adventure, recreation, culture, creativity, wellness, and fun. Our team works together to create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where youth can grow, build confidence, and form lasting friendships. 

We are seeking Camp Cleaners to help ensure our camp remains clean, safe, and welcoming throughout the busy spring, summer, and fall seasons. The Seasonal Camp Cleaner plays a vital role in maintaining high standards of cleanliness across the entire camp, supporting camper health, safety, and overall camp operations. 

Position Description: 
The Seasonal Camp Cleaner supports the smooth operation of all camp activities by ensuring cabins, bathrooms, program spaces, and common areas remain clean, organized, and safe at all times. This role is essential in helping create a positive experience for youth, families, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate is reliable, hardworking, detail-oriented, and takes pride in maintaining a clean, welcoming environment. Strong communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to supporting First Nations youth and communities are key. 

 
Position Title:  Camp Cleaner 

Location: 371 Strecker Road, Kenora, Ontario, P9N 4N8  

Contract:  May 4, 2026 – Friday October 30, 2026 
Hourly Rate:  $21.00/Hour (40/week) + Bonus, $1.00 for every hour worked  
Positions Available:  1 Position  
Report To: Camp Property Manager 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Arrive punctually each day, ready to set the standard for behavior and engagement. 
  • Fully engage in staff training sessions 
  • Wear the staff uniform, embodying the essence of camp professionalism. 
  • Model engaging and well-planned activities that inspire campers and staff alike. 

Training & Professional Development  
 

  • Participate in YES Program training workshops and onboarding.  
  • Attend regular check-ins and professional development sessions.  
  • Complete all job-specific training and demonstrate confidence in assigned cleaning tasks.  
  • Assist with the design and delivery of staff training, including orientation for summer staff  
  • Provide mentorship and professional development throughout the summer, focusing on teaching skills, communication, and cultural awareness.  

Safety & Risk Management 
 

  • Prioritize the safety and well-being, ensuring all activities meet safety protocols  
  • Conduct daily inspections of spaces and report any concerns immediately to Manager  
  • Document and report incidents in accordance with camp safety policies.  

Collaboration & Support 

  • Work with the Camp Supervisors, Coordinators, Counsellors, Kitchen Team, and MWG staff. 
  • Support various projects, events, and camp programming as needed. 

Camp Cleaning & Maintenance 

  • Clean and maintain all camp facilities including: 
  • Indoor Riding Arena Offices, Welcome Center / Art Studio, Cabins, Mess Hall, Washroom and Showering Facilities, Program and common areas, and Staff spaces as required 
  • Assist with turnover cleaning between camper groups, ensuring cabins are ready for new arrivals. 
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and disinfect surfaces regularly. 
  • Empty garbage and recycling; maintain waste disposal areas. 
  • Ensure safe handling and storage of cleaning chemicals and supplies. 
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs promptly. 
  • Follow all safety protocols and maintain an organized workspace. 

General Camp Support 

  • Assist with cleaning needs during special events and high-traffic times. 
  • Provide support to kitchen operations as needed (e.g., wiping tables, sweeping floors). 
  • Support other duties as assigned to contribute to a smooth camp experience. 

Other Duties as Assigned: 
 

  • Willingness to adapt working hours based on needs of program  
  • Be flexible and adaptable, ready to support camp operations at any capacity required.  

 
Qualifications 

  • Knowledge and experience with cleaning  
  • Demonstrated maturity; strong advocate of First Nation people; 
  • Must demonstrate the ability to respond calmly in emotional situations. 
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting. 
  • Knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture and language (Asset) 

Position Requirements 

  • Valid driver’s license 
  • Willing to work irregular hours, evenings and weekends as required. 
  • Current satisfactory criminal reference check with vulnerable sector search. 
  • Standard First Aid & CPR with AED is an asset.  
  • Understanding of the Anishinaabe language (Ojibway) is an asset.
