POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Program Coordinator plays a key role in revitalizing, delivering, and expanding year-round programming at the Youth & Family Wellness Camp. This position supports a broad portfolio of initiatives—including land-based learning, youth leadership development, seasonal camps, wellness and life-promotion programming, sport and recreation, cultural activities, and community events. Working closely with Camp staff, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and partner First Nation communities, the Program Coordinator helps create safe, inclusive, and culturally grounded spaces for participants of all ages.

This role combines program planning, facilitation, event logistics, community outreach, and ongoing relationship-building across Treaty #3 communities. Guided by the Seven Sacred Teachings and the Camp’s holistic approach to wellness, the Coordinator contributes to meaningful, strengths-based programming that fosters leadership, confidence, connection, belonging, and life promotion. A key focus of the role includes leading the Girls at Bat program through year-round planning, coordination, community engagement, leadership development opportunities, and the delivery of four annual Girls at Bat retreats hosted at the Camp.

The ideal candidate will bring a passion for empowering Indigenous youth, strong organizational and facilitation skills, and the ability to coordinate multiple community-based programs at once. They will excel at building relationships with youth, mentors, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and partner communities, while supporting high-quality, culturally relevant programming that reflects the vision and values of the Youth & Family Wellness Camp.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Leadership

  • Coordinate, plan, and deliver a wide range of camp programming including land-based activities, cultural workshops, sport & recreation, seasonal camps, and youth leadership initiatives.
  • Lead the Girls at Bat program, ensuring year-round coordination, community engagement, leadership development opportunities, data collection, and the planning and facilitation of four annual retreats.
  • Coordinate logistics for programming and retreats, including transportation, accommodations, scheduling, meals, facilitators, supplies, and risk management.
  • Work with Cultural Lead, Elders and Knowledge Keepers to integrate cultural teachings, ceremonies, and traditional knowledge across programming.
  • Ensure activities are inclusive, trauma-informed, accessible, and responsive to needs of youth and communities.
  • Maintain a year-round program calendar that supports consistent engagement for youth, families, and community partners.
  • Support program branding, communications, and partnership development across all initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Camp teams to support cross-departmental programming and special projects.


Mentorship & Leadership Development

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with youth, families, community mentors, and staff to foster a welcoming, empowering environment.
  • Support youth leadership development through workshops, experiential learning, and mentorship pathways.
  • Strengthen relationships with Cultural Lead, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community mentors.
  • Mentor youth and volunteers during programming, supporting skill-building in leadership, teamwork, wellness, recreation, and land-based practices.
  • Travel regularly to participating First Nation communities to help deliver programs, support mentors, and strengthen local capacity for community-led activities.

Administration & Reporting

  • Manage registration, attendance, communications, and tracking systems for all assigned programs.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation by collecting feedback, stories, and measurable program outcomes.
  • Assist in preparing reports, success stories, and promotional materials for internal and external partners.
  • Participate in team training, professional development, and planning sessions.
  • Support budgeting, supply management, purchasing and organization of program resources.

Other assigned duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed, culturally safe, and land-based approaches to youth engagement.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Jotform and online communication tools.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Patience, professionalism, and commitment to supporting First Nations youth and communities.
  • Knowledge of Anishinaabe food practices, culture, and language considered an asset.

Education & Experience:

  • Diploma or degree in Recreation, Education, Social Work, or related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in youth programming, sport leadership, or community coordination (experience in girls’ or mentorship programs is an asset).
  • Demonstrated experience building partnerships with First Nations communities.
  • Standard First Aid & CPR with AED certification (or willingness to obtain).

Position Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, evenings, and weekends.
  • Willingness to travel to all Treaty #3 & James Bay First Nation communities as needed.
  • Current satisfactory Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
