Position Description:
Reporting to the Sports and Recreation Manager, the Indigenous Rookie League Program Coordinator plans and delivers summer programming (May–August) within the Youth & Family Wellness Camp, supporting youth leadership, wellness, and community connection through sport. The Coordinator works with Band Offices, schools, volunteers, and Right To Play to support program delivery and coaching, and serves as a positive role model for youth, with flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

Hourly Rate: $24.00/Hour (40/week) + End of Summer Bonus; $1.00 for every hour worked if contract is completed
Term: May 4 – August 28, 2026
Location: 371 Strecker Road, Kenora, Ontario, P9N 4N8
Reports to: Sports and Recreation Manager
Duties and Responsibilities
- Arrive punctually each day, prepared to model professionalism, positive behaviour, and engagement
- Fully participate in staff training sessions, meetings, and required check-ins
- Wear the staff uniform and represent the Camp in a professional manner
- Model engaging, well-planned activities that inspire campers and staff
- Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor, encouraging leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence
Training & Professional Development
- Participate in YES Program training workshops and onboarding
- Attend regular check-ins and professional development sessions
- Complete all job-specific training and demonstrate confidence in assigned tasks
- Provide mentorship throughout the summer, focusing on teaching skills, communication, and cultural awareness
Program Planning, Scheduling & Delivery
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver Indigenous Rookie League summer programming
- Develop and maintain practice schedules, game schedules, tournaments, and special events
- Create team rosters and ensure the development of two teams per community, where participation numbers allow
- Coordinate facility bookings, transportation, team jerseys and equipment needs
- Share schedules and roster information clearly with communities, schools, families, and staff
Coaching Development & Capacity Building
- Develop, design, and coordinate a Coaching Clinic to support coaches and volunteers
- Deliver training focused on skill development, safety, positive coaching practices, and youth engagement
- Work collaboratively with Right To Play to support program needs and align coaching approaches
- Draft coach & volunteer onboarding materials
- Incorporate cultural values, respect, and mentorship into coaching education
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to coaches throughout the season
Tournaments, Events & Community Outreach
- Plan and coordinate the Season Kick-Off Tournament and End-of-Season Tournament
- Organize and deliver the Coach & Player Gala to recognize youth, coaches, volunteers, and community contributions
- Coordinate event logistics, including venues, schedules, transportation, volunteers, and equipment
- Lead community outreach to promote IRL programming and support recruitment of participants, coaches, and volunteers
- Work directly with Band Offices, community volunteers, and schools to coordinate participation and logistics
Game Coordination, Tracking & Reporting
- Coordinate and oversee summer league games, tournaments, and events
- Track game schedules, attendance, results, and community points
- Maintain accurate league records, standings, and team rosters
- Use tracking data to support end-of-season reporting and program reflection
Logistics, Administration & Operations
- Coordinate transportation, equipment distribution, and facility use
- Maintain equipment inventory and ensure proper storage and care
- Support scheduling and supervision of coaches, volunteers, and program assistants
- Ensure safety protocols, league rules, and Camp policies are followed
- Track participation numbers and program outcomes
- Submit required administrative documentation, including timesheets, mileage, and reports
- Support budget tracking related to summer programming
Other Duties as Assigned:
- Willingness to adapt working hours based on needs of program
- Be flexible and adaptable, ready to support program needs in any capacity required
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Recreation, Sport Management, Education, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Experience working with Indigenous youth, communities, and/or schools
- Strong community outreach, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Knowledge of baseball and/or sport-based youth programming
- Experience in coaching, coach development, or facilitator training
- Strong organizational, scheduling, and event coordination skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Position Requirements
- Valid driver’s license
- Willing to work irregular hours, evenings and weekends as required.
- Standard First Aid & CPR with AED is an asset.
- Understanding of the Anishinaabe language (Ojibway) is an asset.
