POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Program Facilitator plays a key role in supporting the delivery of year-round programming at the Youth & Family Wellness Camp. This position focuses on facilitating and supporting a range of initiatives, including land-based learning, youth leadership development, seasonal camps, wellness and life-promotion programming, sport and recreation, cultural activities, and community retreats.

Working closely with Camp staff, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and partner First Nation communities, the Program Facilitator helps create safe, inclusive, and culturally grounded spaces for participants of all ages. Guided by the Seven Sacred Teachings and the Camp’s holistic approach to wellness, this role supports strengths-based programming that fosters leadership, confidence, connection, belonging, and life promotion.

A key focus of this role includes facilitating programming within the B.O.L.D. program and supporting the planning and delivery of community and family retreats, ensuring participants have meaningful, engaging, and culturally relevant experiences. The ideal candidate is passionate about working directly with Indigenous youth and families, brings strong facilitation and relationship-building skills, and thrives in a dynamic, community-based environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Program Facilitation & Delivery

  • Facilitate and support the delivery of camp programming, including land-based activities, cultural workshops, sport and recreation, seasonal camps, and youth leadership initiatives.
  • Facilitate programming within the B.O.L.D. program, community and family retreats, supporting participant engagement, mentorship, and leadership development.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and on-site delivery of B.O.L.D., community, and family retreats.
  • Deliver programming that is inclusive, trauma-informed, culturally safe, and responsive to the needs of youth and communities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Cultural Lead, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers to integrate cultural teachings and ceremonies.
  • Assist with program setup, facilitation, supervision, and teardown to ensure smooth and safe delivery of activities.
  • Support the implementation of a year-round program calendar to maintain consistent engagement.
  • Support program communications, branding, and partnership development across initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Camp teams to support cross-departmental programming and special projects.

Relationship Building & Mentorship

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with youth, families, mentors, and community partners to foster a welcoming and empowering environment.
  • Support youth leadership development through mentorship, experiential learning, and guided facilitation.
  • Create safe and supportive spaces that encourage participation, confidence, and connection.
  • Mentor youth and volunteers, supporting skill development in leadership, teamwork, wellness, recreation, and land-based practices.
  • Work alongside Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community mentors to strengthen culturally grounded programming.
  • Travel regularly to participating First Nation communities to support program delivery, mentorship, and community engagement.

Program Support & Coordination

  • Assist with program logistics, including preparation of materials, scheduling support, transportation coordination, and setup.
  • Support registration, attendance tracking, and communication with participants and families.
  • Collect feedback, stories, and participation data to support program evaluation and reporting.
  • Assist in preparing reports, success stories, and promotional materials.
  • Participate in team training, professional development, and planning sessions.
  • Support supply management, equipment organization, and overall program readiness.

Other assigned duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed, culturally safe, and land-based approaches to youth engagement.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Jotform and online communication tools.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Patience, professionalism, and commitment to supporting First Nations youth and communities.
  • Knowledge of Anishinaabe food practices, culture, and language considered an asset.

Education & Experience:

  • Diploma or degree in Recreation, Education, Social Work, or related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in youth programming, sport leadership, or community coordination (experience in girls’ or mentorship programs is an asset).
  • Demonstrated experience building partnerships with First Nations communities.
  • Standard First Aid & CPR with AED certification (or willingness to obtain).

Position Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, evenings, and weekends.
  • Willingness to travel to all Treaty #3 & James Bay First Nation communities as needed.
  • Current satisfactory Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
