Position Description:
Reporting to the Director of Child and Youth Services, the Youth Services Manager shall, in conjunction with their team, deliver culturally safe, trauma informed, health promotion programs and services to and for youth in eight (8) First Nations communities in the Treaty #3 territory. This position includes leading KCA’s Youth Council to ensure youth voices are incorporated into all youth programs and services, and to lead and manage programs including Child and Youth Case Managers, Youth Outreach Workers, Youth in Transition Workers and the Anti-Human Trafficking team. The Youth Engagement Manager will work closely with communities, and mentor and support staff within community to ensure accessible and relevant services.
Position Title: Youth Services Manager
Salary: $75,000-$90,000
Term: Full time
Location: 240 Veterans Drive, 3rd Floor, Kenora, Ontario
Reports to: Director of Child and Youth Services
Duties and Responsibilities:
Staffing
- Recruit and select staff
- Monitor and evaluate staff performance
- Ensure ongoing staff education and development
- Ensure frequent and regular meetings with staff to discuss work, challenges, successes etc
- Assign staff distribution and workload to best meet the needs of all the communities
- Mentoring and connecting staff in community
Community Liaison
- Develop and maintain an awareness of the needs of each community
- Develop positive and good working relationships with community stakeholders and leadership
- Regular and consistent presence and connections in community with stakeholders
- Develop and maintain relationships with other youth facing service providers in the region
Youth Engagement
- Develop and maintain Terms of Reference for Youth Council
- Recruit and promote youth engagement in joining Youth Council
- Chair Youth Council meetings, plan meetings and agenda, create and share minutes as relevant
- Actively engage with KCA’s youth programs/departments to support strong youth voices imbedded in all KCA youth programs/services
- Develop annual strategic planning and evaluation with this Council
- Work closely with the KCA Executive team and the Board of Directors to ensure feedback and input into Youth Council direction
- Support providing regular updates to Management and Board of Directors on Youth Council work
Youth Programs/Services
- Lead and manage Youth Outreach Worker (YOWs) and Youth in Transition Worker (YITs), Anti-Human Trafficking (AHTs), and Child and Youth Case Managers programs and services
- Work with Director to set strategic direction of youth programs and services, and to conduct program planning and evaluation
- Monitor service quality to clients and make changes as necessary
- Provide or ensure provision of regular and supportive clinical supervision to staff
- Ensure staff input data consistently and correctly
- Regularly review and assess program data to ensure on-going quality service to clients and for accurate reporting to Ministry and communities
Budget
- Monitor the expenditure of the team in conjunction with the Director Child and Youth Services and the Chief Finance Officer
Qualifications:
- Experience in managing staff and providing leadership
- Experience and expertise in youth engagement and youth advocacy
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Excellent skills in the following areas: computer, organization, networking, interpersonal, presentation and communication (written & oral)
- Experience working with and knowledge of Indian Residential School survivors
- Ability to deal with crisis and post-crisis situations
- Knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture and language and experience in working in First Nation communities
- Ability to work flexible hours
