Ogimaawabiitong – Kenora Chiefs Advisory (KCA) was thrilled to see the amazing community turnout to the celebration at Makate Waagamichiwanang Gakinaa’amaatiwin Youth and Family Wellness Camp on June 18.
Smiling faces filled the rolling fields, baseball diamonds and lake as more than 1,000 people came together for National Indigenous Peoples Day.
Adults and schoolchildren alike got the opportunity to learn more about Indigenous culture by listening to drumming and song, sampling cedar tea, enjoying fresh walleye, scraping elk hide, and bonding with the land through sports including beach volleyball, baseball, and paddling.
Chi-miigwetch to everyone who attended, and to our Elders and community members who shared their knowledge in a very special place.
