KENORA, Ont. — Ogimaawabiitong – Kenora Chiefs Advisory is creating a new strategic plan and is seeking input from community members and partners. An online survey is being promoted to gather wisdom, insights, and guidance that will help the organization set priorities and directions for 2027 and beyond.

The current Strategic Plan puts Anishinaabe culture at the center and contains priorities for strengthening programs and building a stronger organization to meet the needs of the communities and clients that we serve.

As always, the Ogimaawabiitong mission and mandate are at the forefront:

Mission Statement: Kenora Chiefs Advisory is committed and dedicated to providing culturally appropriate health and social services which address the needs and enhance the well-being and capacity of community members in our affiliated First Nations.

Mandate: provide programs and services to the First Nations in the field of health, education and social services in a holistic way, ensuring the survival of the Anishinaabe way.

“So much has happened at Ogimaawabiitong – Kenora Chiefs Advisory since we gathered in 2019 to develop our 2020-2024 Strategic Plan,” said Chief Chris Skead, Acting Board President. “Out of that period of engagement and reflection, we defined our strategic directions which mapped Program Priorities, Operational Priorities, Organizational Enablers and Anishinaabe Bimaadiziwin at the core of all work and functions. The format and focus of this plan allowed us to move forward with clear purpose. No one could have foreseen the pandemic that ensued, which significantly shaped our course. The opportunity out of crisis drove Ogimaawabiitong deeper into the strategic directions that were set before us.

“Having passed 30 years of growth and evolution last year, it is time now to gather together and put our hearts and minds towards the future, as we look to engage in establishing our 2027-2031 Strategic Plan – with enthusiasm and bravery. In accordance with our Seven Sacred Teachings, we are asking for Anishinaabeg from our affiliated communities, and all those we serve to support, in guiding and inspiring us to set new goals for Ogimaawabiitong-Kenora Chiefs Advisory. Help us continue to embody our Mission: Niwiisoogawaananig Anishinaabeg chi mino bimaadizid.”

About Ogimaawabiitong – Kenora Chiefs Advisory (KCA)

The Kenora Chiefs Advisory is an alliance of independent, participating First Nations within the north-west region of Treaty #3 and has been incorporated and in operation since 1995. Chiefs from each of the eight (8) communities form the Board of Directors which govern the organization, while the day-to-day operations are managed via the Executive Director. The communities served are situated in the surrounding area of Kenora. Kenora Chiefs Advisory is a member of the All Nations Health Partners Ontario Health Team, a planning partner alongside the Lake of the Woods District Hospital on the All Nations Hospital Project, and a Service Provider Organization delivering physician services in First Nations through the Rural Generalist Council Care Model (RGC).
