The City of Kenora has recently approved a temporary workers camp on Lakeview Drive, and Ogimaawabiitong – Kenora Chiefs Advisory (KCA) is thrilled that this development will support KCA projects, including Wiigwas Senior and Elder care and other improvements to the property, which will also be home to the redeveloped Lake of the Woods District Hospital.

To clarify: July 30 media reports in the Winnipeg Sun and Kenora Miner & News incorrectly linked the work camp to the All Nations Hospital Project in the articles “New Hospital Construction Ramping Up” and “New Healthcare Campus Construction Ramping Up.”

As of Aug. 11, the latter article has been amended, but the former has not.

The newly approved work camp is independent of future hospital construction plans, and a separate workforce accommodation plan is expected to be developed when construction of the new hospital moves forward.

Several important projects are advancing on the Lakeview Drive property, and KCA and its partners are committed to ensuring that the public has the correct information on all developments.

We move forward arm in arm with the lake of the Woods District Hospital and various levels of government, and we look toward to a brighter future where our community is served by a state-of-the-art hospital located on a Campus of Care where Indigenous people feel respected, understood and supported.

About Ogimaawabiitong – Kenora Chiefs Advisory (KCA)

The Kenora Chiefs Advisory is an alliance of independent, participating First Nations within the north-west region of Treaty #3 and has been incorporated and in operation since 1995. Chiefs from each of the eight (8) communities form the Board of Directors which govern the organization, while the day-to-day operations are managed via the Executive Director. The communities served are situated in the surrounding area of Kenora. Kenora Chiefs Advisory is a member of the All Nations Health Partners Ontario Health Team, a planning partner alongside the Lake of the Woods District Hospital on the All Nations Hospital Project, and a Service Provider Organization delivering physician services in First Nations through the Rural Generalist Council Care Model (RGC).
