We’re on the lookout for four (4) dynamic Activity Specialists to join our team and help us create unforgettable summer memories for kids across Treaty 3. As an Activity Specialist, you’ll be right in the heart of the action, guiding campers, Senior and Junior staff through an array of enriching experiences. Position Description:

Activity Specialists are integral to the success of all programming at the KCA Youth and Family Wellness Camp. They are responsible for program planning and leading a wide range of land-based or water-based programming at camp. Over the course of the summer, Activity Specialists will have led than 40 hours a week of inclusive play-based programming for more than 200 children and youth from Treaty 3 communities. Each Activity Specialist leads one of the following areas;

  • (1) Outdoor Education – Canoeing & Portaging, Environmental Activities, Tripping; Fire Making, Wilderness Stafey, etc. (requires Wilderness First Aid and Lifeguarding Certifications)
  • (2) Waterfront & Swimming – Ensuring the Safety of all participants who are entering into the water to swim. (requires a National Lifeguarding Certificate)
  • (1) Sports – Beach Volleyball, Archery, Gaga Ball, and a wide variety of traditional Indigenous sports

Contract:                            May 21st – August 23rd
Hourly Rate:                       $20.00/Hour (40 per week)

Special Considerations:      Must be available to support Day Summer Camp Program
(4 Weeks – July) and Overnight Camp programming
(2 Weeks, 3 Nights/4 Days – August).

Duties and Responsibilities:

Be a Role Model of Inspiration:

  • Arrive punctually each day, ready to set the standard for behaviour and engagement.
  • Fully engage in staff training sessions to empower and inspire junior staff.
  • Wear the staff uniform with pride, embodying the essence of camp professionalism.
  • Model engaging and well-planned activities that inspire campers and staff alike.


Design and Lead Inspiring Staff Training:

  • Collaborate with camp leadership to design and deliver comprehensive staff training sessions.
  • Empower junior staff members to develop confidence and leadership skills.

Design and Facilitate Inclusive and Fun Camp Activities:

  • Craft engaging and age-appropriate activities that ignite excitement and growth in campers.
  • Create a dynamic and inclusive environment where every camper feels valued and empowered.
  • Infuse each activity session with magic, fostering friendships and instilling life skills.

Ensure Safety:

  • Prioritize the safety and well-being of campers by maintaining constant supervision.
  • Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies, ensuring a safe and secure camp environment.
  • Document incidents promptly and thoroughly, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.

Manage Camper Behaviors with Care:

  • Address unsafe behaviors promptly and compassionately, adhering to established policies & procedures.
  • Handle incidents, concerns, and parent inquiries with professionalism and kindness.

Camp Site and Equipment Maintenance:

  • Conduct regular inventory assessments and communicate supply needs promptly.
  • Maintain camp spaces and equipment during program hours, ensuring a clean and functional environment.
  • Report any site issues or equipment malfunctions promptly for swift resolution.

Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Be flexible and adaptable, ready to support camp operations in any capacity required.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture and language and experience in working in an Indigenous community or organization considered an asset.
  • Experience working with children in a camp environment or similar setting.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and lead a variety of engaging activities for children of different ages.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with campers, parents, and other staff members.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and ability to respond to emergency situations.
  • Physical fitness and ability to participate in camp activities alongside campers.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changes in schedule, program, or weather conditions.
  • Creativity and willingness to bring new ideas and approaches to the camp program.
  • Must be willing to travel when required.
  • Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search.
  • Waterfront & Swimming Staff must have their National Lifeguard Certification (NLS)
  • First Aid qualifications (minimum of Emergency First Aid) is an asset or must be willing to obtain certificate prior to commencement of work assignment.
  • High Five Certification is an asset.
