Reporting to the Events & Program Manager, the summer Kitchen staff will need to be creative and passionate at cooking and understands the vision of KCA Youth and Family Wellness Camp. The Sous Chef will be responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the kitchen, ensuring that all meals are prepared and presented according to Kenora Chiefs Advisory’s high standards, and with the clean-up that follows. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as a passion for creating delicious food, gardening, and some facilitation.

Report To: Events & Program Manager, KCA Youth & Family Wellness
Contract: May 21st – August 23rd
Hourly Rate: $20.00/Hour
Positions Available: 2 Positions
Reports to: Events & Program Manager, KCA Youth & Family Wellness Camp
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works collaboratively with KCA Youth & Family Wellness Camp Director, Managers, Coordinators, Sous Chef, Senior and Junior Program Staff, along with other KCA Staff on projects, events, and programs.
- Supports nutritional programming that can take place at the KCA Youth & Family Wellness Camp, as well as community nutrition initiatives.
- Assist with the daily operations of the kitchen, including food preparation, presentation, ordering, and sanitation.
- Ensure that all dishes are prepared according to the menu and health standards.
- Coordinate with front-of-house staff to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Provide training assistant to all kitchen staff on proper cooking techniques and food safety regulations.
- Assist in monitoring kitchen inventory and ordering supplies.
- Work with Head Chef & Nutritional Coordinator to develop new menu items and specials based on seasonal ingredients.
- Ensure that all kitchen equipment is in good working order.
- Facilitate programming that involves healthy eating, cooking, and harvesting.
- Assist in the planning and preparation of annual seasonal ceremonies.
- Assist in all areas of the kitchen operations.
- Assist in kitchen with duties that may be assigned as needed i.e. housekeeping in kitchen, clean dishes, etc.
- Assist in all areas of maintaining the community garden, including but not limited to planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting.
- Prepared to support the Day Summer Camp Program (4 Weeks – July) and the Overnight Camp (2 Weeks, 3 Nights/4 Days – August).
- Willing to work flex hours as needed for KCA Youth & Family Wellness Camp
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Kitchen and/or hospitality preparation experience
- Demonstrated maturity; strong advocate of First Nation people;
- Must have demonstrated ability to work with First Nations as well as health and social service agencies.
- Must demonstrate the ability to respond calmly and appropriately in emotional situations.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- First Aid qualifications (minimum of Emergency First Aid) is an asset or must be willing to obtain certificate prior to commencement of work assignment.
- Knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture and language and experience in working in First Nation communities.
