Ogimaawabiitong (Kenora Chiefs Advisory) and the Kenora Makwa Patrol would like to send a huge Miigwetch to everyone who helped support our fundraising carwash and barbecue, all in support of Kenora’s vulnerable population.
On August 15 at Crystal Clean Carwash, members of the Kenora Makwa Patrol braved the rain and held a fundraising carwash and barbecue for members of the public, where all funds raised would go to support the purchase of vital supplies and clothing to support those in need in the community.
Members of the patrol were also out collecting donations of blankets, men’s running shoes, and other much-needed supplies, which will all go back towards our vulnerable population.
“We find that we’re running low on blankets in the wintertime, and men’s shoes,” explained Manager of the Kenora Makwa Patrol, Jennifer Lebel.
“A lot of our vulnerable population don’t have items that they own, and sometimes they aren’t able to get into the shelter,” Lebel adds. “We like to make sure that they’re at least in a warm spot downtown where we can check on them, but we’d like to be able to give them a warm blanket to keep them comfortable.”
Ogimaawabiitong and the Kenora Makwa Patrol send another huge Miigwetch to everyone who helped support our fundraising efforts, as well as our staff, volunteers, and Crystal Clean Carwash.
“As a non-profit organization, we rely on our community and businesses for support. We thank the community for all of the support. We always have a huge outpouring, and we’re very appreciate,” added Lebel.
Lebel notes that the Kenora Makwa Patrol’s new office at 1008 Ottawa Street in Keewatin has a large area with clothing, supplies, and more for the community’s vulnerable population. Members of the public as well as organizations can both donate and request supplies from the patrol.
