Ogimaawabiitong is honoured to announce the unveiling of the new monument in memory of MMIWG2S+, located at the KCA Youth and Family Wellness Camp.

On May 5, staff, clients, and community members gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony where elder Nelly Mesenegeeshik feasted and blessed the land. The monument will mark the starting point for a new walking trail that will span the entire property.

Next to the monument is a trailhead, where visitors can sign in and take a moment to reflect before beginning their journey on the trail. A big miigwetch to TC Energy for funding the development of the trail and to St. Thomas Aquinas High School for constructing the sign-in building. As visitors start the trail, they will come across the soon-to-be developed medicine garden.

The Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+) movement in Canada is a grassroots movement that raises awareness about the crisis of violence against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people. The movement aims to address the systemic causes of this violence and demand justice for the victims and their families.
